Take notice of the items you buy... where do you get most of your stuff? Inner isles or outer isles?
It's best to shop the outer borders of grocery stores, that's where you'll find the fresh produce, meats and dairy. Inner isles are full of processed foods; that's where you find the junk (cookies, candy, chips). As we all know, this leads to impulse buys. Skip those isles as much as possible.
Here's a list of my favorite grocery items. I shop at Trader Joe's and Fred Meyer (Fry's)
TRADER JOES:
Chicken Sausages (I like garlic herb, roasted tomato and jalapeno flavors)
Salmon Burgers (great for a quick lunch or dinner)
Brown Rice Sushi (california rolls) I eat 4 pieces along w/ a grilled chicken breast for added protein
Trader Joe's Greek Yogurt 2% (sour but tastes great w/ cinnamon and/or fruit mixed in)
Hansen's Diet Rootbeer
Westsoy Soy Milk (Unsweetened Vanilla)
Kashi Go Lean (Not "Crunch". The box has red on it)
PB and J trailmix (make sure you only eat 1/4th cup)
Cuban Black Beans
Fiber Muffins - blueberry or apple/cranberry (they come in a 6 pack. Eat 1 as a snack)
Think Thin Protein bars
Pure Protein - pre-made shake in a can
Brown Rice Tortillas
Edamame
FRED MEYER/FRY'S
Here's the basic stuff. I buy whatever is on sale for these items: spinach (pre-bagged), romaine lettuce (pre-bagged), tomato, cucumber, avocado, apples, oranges, bananas, berries, eggs, oatmeal, cottage cheese (small curd)
Here are some special items/brands that I recommend:
Sunflower wheat bread (Fred Meyer) or Chompie's Multi-grain w/ seeds (Fry's)
Thin buns - "Orowheat Sandwich Thins"
Stevia sweetener - "Pure Via"
Ground Buffalo meat
Jennie O lean turkey patties (frozen section)
Frozen mixed veggies (I like stir-fry w/ asparagus and broccoli)
Little Drummers - mini ice cream sandwiches (IF YOU MUST :) haha)
Jiffy Natural Peanut Butter
Canada Dry Sparkling water - cans (I like lemon-lime. It's a great substitute to soda)
